About The Flute Loft

From the desk of Bill Hutzel, Owner

The Flute Loft was started for the sole purpose of distributing and selling Di Zhao flutes. As a professional flutist I have been performing and teaching for over 30 years, and I am very knowledgeable of a wide range of flutes. I was so impressed with the quality and affordability of the Di Zhao instruments that I auditioned for my own students that soon word-of-mouth attracted other professionals who wanted to offer the same value to their students, as well as for their own professional use. Thus, The Flute Loft was launched!

Di Zhao is a world class flute maker of the highest caliber, with his flutes being regarded as some of the best in the world. Today, he is considered one of the most renowned flute makers in the industry.

In 2013, I expanded to include Bernhard Hammig flutes.  At first, I was a customer of Bernhard Hammig's.  It wasn't long, however, before I was totally sold on Hammig products and became an authorized dealer.  Here is how it all began:

Not everyone believes that changing the crown on your flute can make a difference. In fact, I too didn't realize how big a difference the crown could make until about a year ago when I experimented with changing the crown on my professional Haynes flute to a Magic Crown by Bernhard Hammig. The difference was amazing! Not sure if what I was hearing was psychological, I asked the President of the NJ Flute Society if she would listen to the Magic Crown on my flute. She was so impressed by the difference the Magic Crown made on my flute that she asked to try it on her Powell flute. That was my first Magic Crown sales. The crown sold itself!!!

It was a couple of days later that I ordered another crown for myself, and within a week that one also sold. Interestingly, I purchased and re-sold my own crown again 4 or 5 times before I called Bernhard Hammig North America to inquire about becoming an authorized dealer.

I encourage you to take a look at the Bernhard Hammig products offered on the Shop website, and I invite you to audition them for yourself and your students. Discover German perfection!

The Flute Loft also carries Azumi flutes. Designed by Altus founder Shichi Tanaka and named for the mountainous region of Azumino, Japan, Azumi flutes showcase the tradition and beauty for which the flute makers of Japan are recognized and celebrated. Both the Azumi AZ2 and AZ3 model flutes offered by The Flute Loft come with the Altus Z-Cut headjoint that is versatile and allows any player to sound mature and expressive. The actioin Azumi logo responds fluidly and effortlessly, making it easy to focus on the music. A distinctive feature of the Azumi flute is the Altus Handmade Z-Cut Professional headjoint that is crafted with a more rectangular embouchure hole with minimal over and undercutting. Its sound is open, expressive, and rich; able to produce a variety of tone colors.
